We are pleased to announce that the Cancer Frontier Fund at The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital recently funded nine new projects through the Siteman Investment Program (SIP), a research grant program at Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine.

With the help of donor support, Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Center continuously ranks among the best in the nation, a beacon of hope for patients like Nathan Olsen. “Barnes-Jewish heart surgeons are among the few who can perform bypass surgery using veins from the chest rather than the legs. It was a blessing I was sent to St. Louis,” Nathan says. 

Agnes Judge generously donated $1,000 to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital to support patient care in the Joanne Knight Breast Health Center at Siteman. Siteman was the 48^th of 50 planned visits Agnes has made to leading cancer centers in each of the country’s 50 states. She has donated $1,000 to every center she has visited.

The Foundation awards Community Support Grants four times throughout the year to local nonprofit organizations focused on reducing health care disparities; fostering strong community health care networks; promoting adult health, wellness, and disease prevention in the community; and providing quality health care education. In 2024, the Foundation awarded 27 grants totaling more than $850,000.

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital recently presented Craig Buchman, MD, with its 2024 President's Achievement Award. Dr. Buchman is head of the department of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at WashU Medicine and the otolaryngologist-in-chief at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Compassionate and dedicated nurses ensure that every patient receives the extraordinary care they deserve, and it starts with an extraordinary education at Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing. Donors are supporting the specialized training students need to excel in rewarding nursing careers at BJC HealthCare through a variety of initiatives and programs.

A partnership between BJC HealthCare, The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, BELIEVE Academy, and The Opportunity Trust has been awarded a transformative catalyst grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to establish a first-of-its-kind high school focused on graduating students directly into health care jobs with family-sustaining wages.
