Ira J. Kodner, MD, a pioneer in colon and rectal surgery and prominent medical ethicist, is the recipient of the 2018 President’s Achievement Award given by The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  In addition, an endowed fund has been established at the Foundation to honor Dr. Kodner and support education, research and advocacy in the field of surgical ethics.

The St. Louis community braved the snowy weather at Ballpark Village Nov. 15 as Pedal the Cause announced it had raised $4,524,521 — a record-breaking total for the annual cycling challenge with the stated goal of “helping to create a world without cancer.”

To better help his wife now and in the future as the disease progresses, Robert began seeking more information about Alzheimer’s disease. When they discovered the volume of Alzheimer’s disease research taking place at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine, the Willmans were amazed. “We are so fortunate to be near the foremost centers for Alzheimer’s disease research,” Robert says. “Some of the most groundbreaking research is taking place right here, in our backyard.” 

In a unique collaboration, The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Mid-America Transplant and Washington University School of Medicine have joined together to create a new endowed distinguished chair focused on lung transplantation.
