BJC Employees Receive Over $1 Million in Emergency Assistance Grants

Providing extraordinary patient care is only possible when the needs of the staff are also met. It is difficult to focus when experiencing a personal financial crisis. With a goal to alleviate the financial burden of employees, the BJC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund launched in 2020 thanks to pooled resources from several community donors who care deeply for BJC HealthCare caregivers and staff. Many employees also make gifts throughout the year to the fund.

A total of $1.3 million in grants were awarded to over 2,000 BJC employees from the BJC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund between 2020 and 2022.

In December 2022, 1,500 BJC HealthCare employees made the meaningful decision to donate the cost of their holiday gift to the fund in support of their colleagues. This compassionate choice made by colleagues throughout BJC HealthCare contributed $20,000 to the fund for future distribution.

The BJC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund supports employees throughout BJC HealthCare experiencing financial hardship that impacts basic living needs by awarding a one-time grant. Full-time employees may apply for up to $1,000, and part-time employees may apply for up to $500 in assistance with no payback required. The BJC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund Committee reviews applications on a rolling basis based on an objective determination of need.

Generous donors both from the community and BJC make it possible to support BJC employees during times of crisis. Make a gift to the BJC Employee Emergency Assistance Fund in support of the extraordinary caregivers at BJC or learn how to apply for employee financial assistance grants.
