Workforce Pathways

In today’s rapidly evolving health care landscape, the need for compassionate, skilled health care professionals has never been greater. To meet this need, BJC HealthCare is cultivating its workforce through pathway programs that support economic mobility and exploration of health care careers as early as high school.

BJC is intentionally investing in programs and community partnerships that lay the foundation for students to have paths to meaningful careers in health care—careers that improve the lives of patients, strengthen communities, and offer pathways to personal and professional growth in in-demand fields. Examples of this work include:

BESt

For nearly 20 years, BESt has sparked students’ interests in STEM and health care professions where there is a growing demand for high-quality providers. The program focuses on building academic skills through hands on learning and provides mentorship in personal branding, character, and leadership growth. BESt provides high school students with opportunities to interact with health care professionals in a college environment

BELIEVE Academy

Established in 2024, BELIEVE Academy is a first-of-its-kind high school focused on graduating students directly into health care jobs with family-sustaining wages. Working together, BJC and BELIEVE identified six career pathways for students to follow: clinical lab sciences, respiratory care, radiologic technology, nursing, surgical-related services, and professional support. As BELIEVE’s sole health care partner, BJC is involved in the curricula and education of students.
