The Endowed Chair for Surgical Excellence in Breast Cancer

Thursday, April 9, 2026, Julie Margenthaler, MD, FACS, director of Breast Surgical Services at Siteman Cancer Center, was installed as the inaugural Endowed Chair for Surgical Excellence in Breast Cancer. Celebrated for her expert surgical care and compassionate approach, Dr. Margenthaler has touched countless lives over her 30-year career. This endowed chair, made possible by generous Foundation donors, honors her dedication and advances the future of breast cancer care.

About Dr. Julie Margenthaler

Dr. Julie Margenthaler is the Director of Breast Surgical Services of the Joanne Knight Breast Center at Siteman Cancer Center and Professor of Surgery and Director of the Breast Fellowship Program at WashU Medicine. She is a graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency and breast fellowship at WashU Medicine. Dr. Margenthaler is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has served as the President, Secretary-Treasurer, Chair of the Communications Committee, Program Chair, and Chair/Member of the Board for the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She has given numerous lectures nationally and internationally and is committed to the mission of improving the lives of women with breast diseases and breast cancer.
